Ricochet Oil Corp. Aquatic Centre

Completed using the IPD (Integrated Project Delivery) method to serve the Drayton Valley region in central-western Alberta.

This new 1,636m² aquatic facility includes an 8-lane 25m pool, a leisure pool with a lazy river, a whirlpool / hot tub, a steam room, and an indoor / in-pool climbing wall.

Major consideration to programmatic elements was given for future expansion plans of a field house. While not in the original project budget, a waterslide (not initially viable) was added to the scope prior to completion of the facility. This was possible because of the budgetary success of the IPD project.

Due to its highly collaborative nature, this project saw the team mitigate a large portion of risk (long procurement times, inflation, trade availability) associated with the start and duration of the COVID-19 pandemic. The team’s quick action and planning delivered the project less than a percent over budget without sacrificing the design intent or quality.

The Aquatic Centre is highly focused on the community and surrounding communities of Drayton Valley. Reflecting this community focus, the Universal Change Rooms are larger than both female and male change rooms, accommodating family demographics. The pool program also included a Community Room accessed from both the lobby and pool deck for event and training purposes.
