Rollie Miles Recreation Centre

Designed by Group2 in partnership with MJMA, the Rollie Miles Recreation Centre is envisioned as a revitalized social and recreational hub serving the Queen Alexandra neighbourhood and the broader community. The facility provides a welcoming destination that promotes health, wellness, and inclusive community gathering while increasing access to recreation and active living opportunities.

The building is strategically anchored at the corner of the site to minimize impact on the surrounding parkland and preserve existing mature trees. Program stacking places the gymnasium above the pool change rooms, reducing the building footprint and creating a massing strategy defined by two east–west bars that step down toward the park. This approach creates a pedestrian‑scaled presence and allows natural light to penetrate deep into the building through a large clerestory window. The project is a flagship application of the City of Edmonton’s Climate Resilience Policy (C627) for recreation facilities and is designed to achieve Net Zero Emissions.
