The Red Deer Justice Centre is a nine storey regional court delivering the services of the Court of King’s Bench and the Provincial Court (Civil, Criminal, Traffic, Family and Youth). The Justice Centre includes 16 courtrooms, including a large jury courtroom, ceremonial courtroom (first nations focused), high security courtroom, multi-accused courtroom, and 4 shelled out courtrooms for future development. The project was completed with extensive consultation and collaboration with Alberta Infrastructure, Alberta Justice and Public Safety and Emergency Services and the Judiciary. The Justice Centre is targeting LEED V4 Silver Certification.
The facility includes 35 cells with 28 single cells, 7 group cells and 1 observation cell and separate prisoner circulation. It has a high secure environment with a facility control room and a secondary back-up location capable of taking over controls if required. The facility accommodates 62 secure underground stalls and a separate sally port which accommodates four van transfer vehicles and a full-size prisoner transfer bus.
