Triffo Hall at the University of Alberta

Representing the rebirth of one of the oldest buildings on the University of Alberta’s North Campus (1915), Triffo Hall provides an office complex and conference/classroom facility for the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research and the Graduate Students’ Association, while achieving LEED Gold status.

Location Edmonton, AB Completion December 2007

The overall design is structured around an interior street which runs the length of the building and connects all programming elements. Openings through the second floor allow opportunities for ample natural light to flood the main floor, and provide loft like workgroup areas for informal meetings. The result is a daylit environment that is implicitly connected to the original structure.

Through detailed functional programming analysis the project was able to exploit synergies between the two tenants; the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research and the Graduate Students Association.

Several meeting rooms are specifically designed to address the unique external connections of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. Graduate level students, professors and advisors required spaces such as the Thesis Room that supported opportunities to connect globally through teleconferencing.
