The Grand Trunk Arena project includes a small addition to house the new ice plant, as well as some interior renovations. Though constructed at the back of the arena, the ice plant is visible from the Aquatic Facility entrance, so it was important to develop a structure that was aesthetically pleasing. The form and materials of the building are simple, and playfully reference its purpose – a white cube with insulated metal panel and fritted glass, resembling an ice cube. The south wall glazing showcases the ice plant and is intended to be lit at night in order to reduce the possibility of loitering and vandalism. The interior renovations included new skate flooring, recladding of the arena walls with a perforated metal panel, and the recapping of existing benches in the viewing area and changerooms.
