Edmonton Public Library – Capilano Branch

The Capilano Branch Library is a neighbourhood library located on the edge of a ravine in suburban Edmonton. Sited on an underutilized portion of the ravine, the modestly scaled building has become a catalyst for broader neighbourhood renewal—re‑establishing the library as an accessible, welcoming civic space embedded within a mature residential community.

The interior is organized into three parallel zones aligned with the ravine, accommodating flexible staff, collection, and community spaces alongside quieter, fixed program areas that form a calm edge to the street. The exterior expression uses dark tones and natural wood finishes to respectfully complement the ravine setting, while the interior is defined by a daylit folding wood ceiling that creates warmth, intimacy, and visual continuity between inside and out. Group2 acts as Prime Consultant in collaboration with Patkau Architects as Design Architect, sharing architectural responsibility across all project phases.
