The Ed Howell Live Fire Training Tower delivers a purpose-built facility that supports advanced training for Red Deer Emergency Services and surrounding first-responder communities. The 9,000 sq. ft. tower enables a wide range of realistic training scenarios, including residential and commercial fires, basement suites, garages, hazardous materials, collapsed structures, elevators, and confined spaces—providing a comprehensive and adaptable training environment.
Designed with durability, realism, and operational flexibility in mind, the project incorporates high‑performance materials and modular systems to withstand extreme training conditions while minimizing downtime. A significant portion of the work was self‑performed, including construction of a concrete burn pad for vehicle fire training and seven high‑temperature burn rooms reaching up to 800°F. The existing training tower was repurposed into classroom and storage space, extending the value of existing infrastructure. Close collaboration with the City and trade partners ensured the facility aligned with real operational needs, maximized grant funding, and delivered a highly functional, training‑focused outcome.
