Blatchford Fire Station is an emergency services facility designed to support resilient, low‑carbon operations within Edmonton’s emerging Blatchford neighbourhood. Replacing an existing fire station, the new three‑bay facility includes tandem apparatus bays with integrated support and living spaces, purpose‑built to serve a dense, mixed‑use community on the site of the former Municipal Airport. The design responds to its evolving urban context while providing a highly visible and accessible civic presence within the neighbourhood.
Developed through a robust functional program shaped by key user groups, the station consolidates operational and support functions into a compact, efficient floor plate that prioritizes response readiness, durability, and long‑term adaptability. The project will be fully integrated with the Blatchford Renewable Energy district energy system and is designed to meet the requirements of the City of Edmonton C627 Climate Resiliency Policy, targeting emissions‑neutral performance and reduced embodied carbon. Design strategies include accommodations for a future electrified fleet, maximized daylight and natural cross‑ventilation, and a high‑performance building envelope.
